Week 22: Developing Personal Connection With OM/AUM (Sutra 28)

“To repeat it with reflection upon its meaning is an aid.”

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Sutra (Thread) or Lesson 28: Tajjapa Tadartha Bhavanam

Tad (taj): that (OM) | Japah: repetition | Tad: that (OM) | Artha: meaning | Bhavanam: reflection

In Yoga, a Japa is the intentional repetition of a mantra, which is a mystic word (or phrase) that “keeps the mind steady and produces the proper effect” of creating and maintaining a connection with one’s Highest Self/Source (The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali).

Japa, according to Sri Swami Satchidananda, is “communion with God through the repetition of holy name.”
